About Us

The Specter Inspectors (TSI) is a paranormal research and investigation group located in central New Jersey. Our mission is to help anyone who may be experiencing a ghost, haunting, or other paranormal activity in their home or place of business. Our primary approach is to "debunk" events (that is, find non-paranormal causes for what is presumed to be paranormal) and consider that which cannot be explained to be possible paranormal activity. Our goal is to find the truth, whether that truth is paranormal or not; we want to help you find answers. We use various equipment and methods to investigate and gather evidence, from a basic compass to night vision digital video cameras. (Please see our Equipment page for more details.) Our investigations are always done in a professional manner, with honesty and respect.

Where we investigate
Our investigations have primarily been in New Jersey. However, we have also traveled to eastern PA (including the Philadelphia, PA, area) and have investigations in the New York City area pending. If you are located in the eastern PA, New York City (Manhattan, Long Island, or Staten Island), or northeastern MD or DE areas - or, of course, almost anywhere in NJ - and think you may be experiencing paranormal activity in your business or home, we encourage you to contact us.

A little about the team
TSI paranormal investigators have included people with a wide variety of experiences and professional backgrounds, including photography, advertising, emergency services, travel, and retail management. Everyone brings their own, unique view to the team. Our different perspectives and life experiences help to give our team a wider scope of knowledge and approach to paranormal investigations. All of our investigators are from central New Jersey region, including Monmouth, Mercer, and Ocean counties. See the bottom of this page for some information about our individual team members. All of our investigators have passed a criminal background check.

What if your location is historic?
If you are concerned about having a paranormal investigation group in your home or business because it is historic, please note that we are very familiar working around historic artifacts and architecture. Most of the locations we have investigated have been historic and several date to the pre-Revolutionary War era. Just contact us and let us know your concerns. I am sure we will be able to find a way to help you!

There is never a charge for us to do an investigation.

What to Expect During an Investigation

• Scheduling: Investigations typically take place on weekends (we have full-time jobs), from about 9pm to 5am. There is some flexibility with the start and end times, but we do not recommend having an investigation that lasts fewer than four hours.

• Low Key: TSI Paranormal Investigations takes a very low-key approach to our investigations. We recognize that not everyone wants their neighbors to know that their home or business is being investigated for paranormal activity. Our vehicles are unmarked in that respect and will not indicate that there is a team of paranormal investigators in your home or business.

• Set-up: Set-up of equipment is customized to the location and reports of activity. Not all equipment may necessarily be used. Access to at least one active electrical outlet is preferred, but not required. Note, however, that certain pieces of equipment require electricity and we will not be able to use them if electricity is not available.

• Animals: Noisy animals - dogs, birds, some cats, etc. - must be removed from the location prior to an investigation. This is for evidence contamination issues.

• Participation: We prefer that one person who has the authority to grant us permission to investigate the location be on site during the entire investigation. However, s/he will not participate in the investigation itself.

• Lights on or off? We prefer to investigate with all lights turned off in the building in the areas in which we will be investigating. Why? Visit our FAQ page for the answer!

• Report of Findings: A final report of our findings will be reviewed with the client in person. The turnaround time for the report varies according to the investigation, its complexity, and the amount of equipment that was used during the investigation that must be reviewed and compared with other sources used during the investigation.

• Evidence: When we present you with potential evidence of paranormal activity, please note that every effort is made to ensure that what we have found cannot be explained by any other means. Recordings are compared with others from the exact same time to confirm or debunk the potential evidence. Even then, we will present any potential evidence to you for further clarification, if possible, before finally deciding if it is or is not paranormal in nature.

The TSI Team

Terri: My interest in the paranormal started when I was a child and my family lived in what, apparently, was a haunted house. Since then, I have always had an interest in reading and learning more about the paranormal and others' experiences with it. I have continued my paranormal studies, so to speak, by attending paranormal training classes which used to be offered by T.A.P.S. (As of this writing, I don't believe they have offered these classes in almost two years.) The first class I attended was their Paranormal 101 class taught in the T.A.P.S. headquarters in Warwick, RI, by Kristyn Gartland. (Note: Kristyn still offers this class independently on occasion. I was going to provide a link to her web site, but it looks like it's down at the moment; I will provide a link as soon as one is available because I found her class really interesting and there is no doubting her enthusiasm for the subject!) I also attended an intensive, "boot camp" paranormal training course led by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson of T.A.P.S. (whom you may know from their show, Ghost Hunters). Other instructors included Britt Griffith, formerly of Ghost Hunters, and Syd Schults, formerly of the T.A.P.S. West Coast team. The weekend course was held at the haunted Spalding Inn in New Hampshire, owned by Jason and Grant (of course they own a haunted inn!), and included an investigation of the Inn with Jason, Grant, Britt, and Syd. Although there is no such thing as certification in the paranormal field, I believe that taking these classes was an opportunity to learn in person from the best, in my opinion.

Melissa: Hi, my name is Melissa and I am a single mother of an 8-year-old boy. I am a police dispatcher and a DJ. I have been interested in the paranormal for many, many years and have had some personal experiences. I joined TSI to help people and to learn more about the paranormal.

Eileen: Hi, my name is Eileen. I live along the Jersey shore. I became interested in the paranormal in high school. My first experience wasn't until I went to a horse ranch in upstate New York: I took some pictures which had some "oddities" and have been seeking answers ever since. It seems that the more I pay attention, the more happens.
